He may ‘only’ be 24 years old but this young challenger has a definite can-do approach. Wout walked into our offices two years ago for an internship, recommended by his mother, who has her own beautiful history at edibo. Today, he is on his path to grow from Assistant Project Manager to Site Manager, to eventually become Project Manager. What the first year on the job of this industrial construction engineer looked like, he’d love to share with you himself.

From the office to the construction site

For Wout, edibo isn’t just his place of work, it’s his stepping stone to the professional field. “In my current role, I often form the bridge between the planning department inside and the actual execution of the building projects. I assess quotations from subcontractors, place orders and make sure that all the building processes are aligned, as defined in that planning.”

“Right now, I am in full training to be Assistant Project Manager. Everyone is encouraging me to keep growing. I learn a lot from my many colleagues and I am getting ready to take on more responsibilities out there, on site. I want to focus on the activities of the construction itself. I feel really ready to take on the role of site manager.”

Diversified construction, variation on point

From the grandeur of the construction of logistics site Logistics Capital Partners in Bilzen to the enormous precision required during the construction of the testing site for ZF Wind Power: the wide diversity of building projects is what keeps Wout on his toes. “The intriguing mix of fast industrial projects and detailed office buildings is what makes my job so interesting. There’s always a new challenge that teaches you new skills every time.”

Ambition is one, team spirit is everything

The team spirit at edibo is what persuaded Wout to start here as school leaver. “I remember my first intern days well. Everyone was very welcoming and excited to work with me. They didn’t hesitate at all to trust me with a lot of responsibilities in those first few weeks. Last summer, I got the chance to take an intern under my own wing for the first time. I hope I was able to give him the same warm feeling.”

“We work hard here but at the same time, we know the importance of camaraderie and leisure. This is not only advocated by the collegiality during work hours but also by the annual ski trip and after work parties (smiles).”

Enjoying the ride towards the end goal

As soon as the hard hat comes off, you can regularly find Wout on the football field of Pelt, or enjoying the company of his girlfriend and friends. “I recharge completely during the weekends, so as to go full on at work. Because at this point, I am really keen on becoming Site Manager and eventually Project Manager. In the meantime, I never forget to enjoy the ride to that destination.”
