An absolute all-rounder. There’s no other way to accurately describe our challenger Max. As work planner, he is versatility personified at edibosud, always ready to learn and to improve himself, at every challenge that crosses his path. We take a look into his life in and outside the workplace.

Jack-of-all-trades and a quick learner

In his capacity as work planner, Max is in charge of ordering basic materials for our projects but he is also 3D modeller and developer of the construction and production plans for our steel workshop in Lommel.

“I’m usually working on my computer, designing 3D models and looking for answers to resolve technical issues. Then again, I try to do construction site visits as often as possible to stay in touch with our projects. When you’re always working in a 3D environment, your work does not always synchronise with the activities that are happening in real-time.”

Musician by training, designer by heart

Max is a musician as well as a sound engineer by training. After a few years, though, he decided to change paths and he enrolled in technical drawing course in Brussels.

“After a one-year training, I immediately got job offer at a company in Verviers active in metal construction, ironwork and sheet metalworking. I stayed there for two years which meant that I had to commute almost three hours every day, all throughout the traffic jams in Brussels. Then one day, I spotted a vacancy at edibosud – much closer to home – and I successfully took my shot.”

“At that moment, I had no experience in industrial construction whatsoever. It was one thing to draw out metal structures but that didn’t even come close to complete industrial constructions. I learned all that at edibosud.”

“I was lucky to have new co-workers who really took me in and taught me a great deal. There’s a young and dynamic ambiance in the team, which makes workdays very enjoyable.”

Large-scale starter project, new challenges ahead

When Max first met his colleagues in 2018, the edibosud organisation was still rather small, which quickly changed after the construction of new offices. Max already played an important role in this project.

“Dirk, the manager of edibosud, was looking for someone to design the new offices. The metal and concrete structures, the vaults and profiled metal sheets … It actually felt like a large school assignment.”

“For me, this project couldn’t have come at a better time: I had no concrete experience in designing industrial buildings, and there was no specified customer deadline. This meant that I was given the time and space to grow and to really get a hang of the edibosud way of working.”

Evolving vs. improving

Max’s current ambition is to improve himself daily on a technical level in order to deliver high-quality projects even faster.

“That’s exactly why I find projects that teach me new things so interesting. And yet, when I see the projects our more experienced designers are working on at our branch in Lommel, I can’t help to think to myself: will I ever be able to develop projects like that myself?”

“But that’s life: you learn new things every step of the way. Now it’s up to me to take the next steps on the path of my career.”

Right after his arrival at edibosud, Max played an important role in the construction of our own new offices.

Drawings, pictures, Krav Maga, but primarily family

As soon as he switches off his computer, Max loves to spend time with his family. Father to a five-year-old daughter and an eight-year-old son leaves little free time, but he still set some clear challenges for himself for the upcoming future.

“I used to play music up to six hours a day when I was younger. Now, I intentionally choose hobbies that take up less time. I took up sports again; once a week, I practice Krav Maga, a type of martial arts.”

“Depending on the time of year, I really enjoy drawing, photography and archery. However, my family is my all-time favourite pastime. As soon as the kids are older, I’ll definitely have more time to rekindle an old flame: music.”
