We organised eight evening Dutch lessons through the Confederatie Bouw [Construction Confederation] for our colleagues who speak other languages. These courses were specifically aimed at the construction sector and designed to help our colleagues improve their Dutch language in terms of construction, which will facilitate communication on the work floor.
On the other hand, communication is a two-way street. It’s therefore important that the Dutch speakers make an effort in their communication, too. This is why we also organised two “Help” sessions for Dutch speakers who are in contact with our non-native colleagues. During these sessions, they were provided with tips and pointers to help them communicate better.
This communication process is an important investment for both parties to improve their communications. In doing so, edibo is trying to offer support in limiting language barriers often found in the workplace, and indirectly, improve integration at a social level.
