Hilde Vranken, Calculator Salesman: “Whitewood entrusted us with the extensive renovation of two warehouses, situated on the former Carrefour site in Nijvel. In total, this is a 21-hectare site with almost 50,000 m² of construction space. Another part included in this project: the environmental works.”
“The biggest challenge was the super-strict timing. We only had four months to deliver the first part of the buildings – which was about 20,000 m² – before the first tenants arrived. No easy task for the project team, especially since the project hadn’t been decided on fully and there had been numerous changes along the way. However, thanks to our strong internal collaboration and a great synergy between us and the other contractors, we’re managing to keep up the pace.”
Jérôme Patigny, Project Manager: “This was definitely an intense renovation project, and not only for the rigid stage deadlines. It included a complete renewal – with insulation – of the façade finish, a partial roof renovation, an electricity supply upgrade, installation of modern technology (ventilation system, heating and cooling systems, and sprinkler systems) and even brand-new door openings and firebreak walls.”
“The budget requirements of the building consultant and the vision for the interior decoration by both Whitewood and the future tenants played a significant additional role here. Especially in the context of the specified BREEAM aspirations. Originally, it was our shared goal to obtain the BREEAM Very Good certification, but we adjusted that to the even more ambitious Excellent certification. Since certain parts of the buildings were already in use, we needed to redirect our plans creatively, by acting proactively and by continuously figuring out adequate solutions, together with the customer.”
“The final challenge was how to practically and safely organise the works on site. There was only one access road, which made the environmental works extra challenging. In short, this was once again a project where we were allowed to and able to live up to our reputation as constructive challengers.”
